Last year I was fortunate enough to be able to help with Precision’s Coats for cars coat drive. I brought in a few coats that my family and I had been wearing the year before when we got new ones. The coat drive also came at a great time for us because our main family car started making a horrible grinding noise when I would turn or step on the brakes. It was actually pretty scary! Turns out I needed brakes and by helping to donate to this coat drive I was able to save a few bucks off something I already needed anyways. To be clear, I didn’t donate for the discount but I wasn’t going to turn down Precision’s generous offer. I’ve been a customer of theirs for about 3 years now and we have 3 cars. I always find that James and his staff are very helpful, thoughtful, and reasonable. I’m proud to see all that they do to help everyone in our area. Repair shops and most businesses in general don’t do a fraction of what these people do and I will continue to support them and their fantastic programs.
Last year we started a program called Repair It Forward. For those that don’t know, Repair it Forward is a program we created to give back to the community that supports us by helping a family that has fallen on hard times and can truly benefit from having a safe and reliable vehicle. The Repair it Forward Winner will receive up to $3,000 in repairs for their vehicle. While this may seem like a lot of money, and we assure you that it is. We found that the people that really needed a program like this had been putting off repairs for so long that that some of the minor and inexpensive repairs had now become major ones.
Applicants were asked to submit their hardship through our website using an online form. From there the panel would pick one winner. This year we had almost 300 participants!! Which is about 100 more than last year. This made the decision making process much more difficult because like last year, we found that there were a lot of very deserving families.
After careful consideration we were able to come up with one family that really stood out. So today we are happy to announce the winner of the 2nd annual Repair it Forward Program….
Congratulations to Patrick Driscoll of West Springfield. Patrick is a veteran, father, and husband. We hope that this $3,000 in vehicle repairs will help you advance your career as your wife Shelby was very concerned about the safety and reliability of your vehicle while traveling to and from work. Patrick also uses this vehicle daily as his work vehicle.
I personally want to thank all of our customers that come in and trust us to service their vehicles. A portion of all repair bills go towards this program, so without your trust in us we couldn’t afford to have Repair it Forward. I would also like to thank Autopart International of West Springfield for helping to sponsor this program.
Congratulations again to Patrick and Shelby. And to everyone else that applied for the program. We wish you all the best of luck.
My husband has a jeep that has literally been falling apart for years. Precision offered a program called Repair it Forward and I entered my husband. By some small miracle we were chosen by James and his employees. They were incredible and not only repaired our car for free but they went over budget to make sure my husband would be safe in his daily driver. The work is fantastic and I can’t thank them enough for what they do. I won’t go anywhere else for my repair needs. Impeccable work, honesty, and they do what they can to help.
I don’t know anyone that hasn’t had a hard time at some point in their life. Whether it’s losing a job, an illness in the family, or any other life altering event. It’s happened to all of us. When we’re in that low, all we want is to get out of it and get back to where we were or to be even stronger than we were. My family and I created Repair it Forward for people in situations just like these.
You never really know how much you need your car until you’re without it.
2015 Repair it Forward Winner
Last year was a huge success. We knew there would be a huge demand but never expected almost 200 applicants. It was a tough decision to make but one family really stood out in the crowd. Wendy Thibault of West Springfield, MA allowed us the chance to get her family mini van back in proper working order. The only real problem was that when the van started coming apart for repairs we started to find more problems…. It was like an onion, every time we peeled back another layer there was another problem. We couldn’t just put it back together like that so our staff and the staff at Autopart International of West Springfield chipped in their own personal money to help pay for the additional repairs. It was awesome!!! The van ran like new when it was done. The Thibault family couldn’t have been happier.
Want to know more?
Just go to the Repair it Forward page, fill out the form, and one of our staff will contact you in a day or so. If you can’t fill the form out, that’s ok. Just ask a friend or family member to assist you, it should only take a few minutes. From there we will inspect the vehicle to make sure that $3,000 will actually make the car safe and reliable. Our only intent is to make you safe so that the vehicle will pass state inspection and get you and your family wherever you need to go. If you’re happy and this helps you, we hit our mark. Then we back our repair with our 2 year 24,000 mile Nationwide Warranty and Free 12 Month Roadside Assistance.
One of our passions here is giving back to the community that supports us. We will never be a business that takes and takes without helping as many people as we can along the way. So a few times every year we are presented with an opportunity to help someone without looking for anything in return. When we’re presented with this opportunity we go big. With all of the causes we have helped through the years and continue to support such as Brakes For Breasts, Repair it Forward (this is actually our own charity that my wife and I fund), Brightside for Families and Children,
Western Mass News reached out to us about a week ago and told us that they were interested in surprising 1 customer by paying for up to $500 of their bill. We thought that this was a great idea! So we took it a few steps further….. First, we decided to match the $500 from Western Mass News and The Big Y SurPRIZE Squad. The reason being is that most people that are REALLY in need of repairs have put off issues for so long that there is subsequent damage (issues created by other issues) and the bill can get out of control quickly. We felt that $1,000 was a good number (It gets much better).
We first met Ricardo a few months back. We see a few thousand customers every year and this class act stood out among the rest because of how genuinely polite he was. He brought in his 2009 Honda Civic for a major issue and ultimately didn’t have all of the money to address all issues with the vehicle. Like many people he was left in a situation where he had to prioritize by repairing the issue that was causing the car not to run at all and push aside some other issues until he could get some more money together. The hardship comes in because Ricardo is Active Duty in The US Army National Guard, has 2 children (1 of which turns 5 today), and a baby on the way. He’s doing everything he can to make ends meet for his family and to provide for them, so even though there are issues with his car he just has other priorities that top that list. Which we can all relate to. Ricardo puts his butt on the line for us protecting our country, the least we could do is fix his car for him. To learn more about this repair process you can find it here.
So as promised, there was a twist at the end. Ricardo’s bill came out to $1,000 (slightly over actually). We took the $1,000 ($500 from us and $500 from The Western Mass News Big Y SurPRIZE Squad) and gave it all to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Then we paid the remainder of his bill for him. The hospital is in need of an EOS Imaging x-ray machine that will help assess the needs of children by using Ultra-safe low dose radiation technology that reduces the risk of cancer for patients who receive repeated x-rays. It uses Nobel-Prize winning technology. This machine will cost just under $900,000.
Thanks to Western Mass News, Brittany Decker, The Big Y SurPRIZE Squad, Melha Shriners, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and our wonderful staff that fixed Ricardo’s car. Today was a great an awesome day!!!
If you’re interested in donating to Shriners Hospitals for Children you can click here. Every bit helps….

It’s no secret that we all want to drive our cars as long as possible, staying as safe as possible, while spending as little as possible, and ultimately have no breakdowns. The truth is that with very little planning this is a very realistic goal for every one of you. But if you are one of the many that think by just getting an Oil Change a few times every year that is going to help you reach this goal, I’m sorry to say that you won’t. Our experience shows that the customer that only gets an Oil Change once or twice every year and doesn’t perform any other maintenance will pay up to 5x more (based on ownership up to 150,000 miles) to keep their car running safely than someone that follows the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule.
In this 2 part post I’m going to explain what Factory Scheduled Maintenance is, how to properly check your engine oil, how performing these services actually cover what some call a Tune Up, the difference in services based on driving habits, and why you need to use this schedule if you don’t want to pay for expensive and unexpected repairs and keep your factory warranty current.
Checking your oil level
Cars are definitely built a lot better than they were years ago. They’re much more efficient and are built to much stricter specifications which typically means that they won’t burn through fluids, last longer, and can go longer between services. With that said, the life blood of your engine is the oil. I typically check my oil every other time I fill my gas tank. This helps me monitor the condition and level of the oil regularly so I can spot an issue before it becomes a major problem. Here’s how;
Factory Scheduled Maintenance
The manufacturer that built your vehicle came up with a plan for your vehicle. This plan was laid out to ensure that all essential systems in the vehicle get checked or serviced at specified times. The plan was also made to ensure that you will have worry free driving so that you will stay loyal to the brand you drive and ultimately buy another one in the future. The example below is actually the plan for an Acura RL (your plan will vary based on the vehicle you drive, this is just an example. If you need information for a specific vehicle, feel free to call us and we can get that for you);
As you can see the plan is broken down into specific mileage based sections that point out exactly what needs to be checked and/or replaced as well as when. These services are commonly referred to as “K Services”.
In Part 2 of this post we will cover K Services based on driving habits, how “K Services” are the new Tune Up, and how performing these services not only adds value to your vehicle but it will help save you money and time by keeping the car running like new while maintaining the factory warranty.
I’ve never been very fond of the expression “It’s just business” because for the staff here “It’s personal”. We show up everyday and give 110%. We reach this goal by making it a habit to go out of our way for every single customer that comes through the door, every single day. For the customer it’s also personal because they’re spending their hard earned money at an auto repair shop on their vehicle and want value for that. The only thing we’re always looking for in return is that the customer’s like the level of service we provided and that they return.
This story actually originated about a week ago in an earlier blog post. It turns out that Western Mass News heard about the story and wanted to give us a “pat on the back” for going the extra mile….. literally! The story went viral.
In all reality we give this level of service to everyone. But we can all agree that the circumstances surrounding this Dodge Repair were much different than what we’re used to seeing. I can’t even imagine the level of anxiety that Bryan faces when getting ready to deploy. I stress out when I drop my kids off at daycare and I know I’m going to see them in a few hours. Can you imagine knowing you have to go to a job where you won’t see your family for 6 months, 1 year, and unfortunately sometimes never again…..? The staff here just didn’t want to add to that anxiety and needed to do whatever we could to make the situation right, immediately.
Not to mention that Army or no Army, he paid for a service. The part went bad and we sold it to him. We needed to make that right because it’s the ethical thing to do. Normally we would have just put the customer in a rental car until the new part came in but due to his deployment the solution had to be a little more outside the box than that. So we did what we had to do to make it right. It was/is truly flattering to be acknowledged for our efforts in this way.
I just really want to express our sincerest “Thank you” to everyone that reached out to Bryan and his family to show support for all he does to help protect our freedom. “Thank you” to Western Mass News for sharing Bryan’s story. Last but not least “Thank You” to all of our Active Duty Military and Veterans, for all that you have done and continue to do for our country. We hope that this story will help influence others to go out of their way for someone without expecting anything in return.
It’s very common to receive phone calls from individuals asking for quotes to repair certain issues on their vehicle. The majority of the people ask this question because they simply just don’t know the right questions to ask. From here we try to get some more information about what’s going on with their vehicle and book an appointment to properly diagnose their concern so that we can provide an accurate quote and ultimately fix the issue. Then there are some that are only shopping for the Cheapest Auto Repair they can find. With almost 20 years of experience in this field I assure you that if you’re making your decisions based solely on price, you’ll end up paying much more to fix the issue in the long run. Allow me to explain.
Here are 3 separate stories from the past few months where the customer was ONLY concerned with getting the Cheapest Auto Repair they could find.
Pre Purchase Inspection
The first customer was buying a new vehicle for his wife. Apparently his friend that’s a “Mechanic” has owned the car since it was new. He wanted us to look the car over prior to him purchasing it but insisted that “any shop will do it for free”. Then got upset when we informed him that there would be a charge. Well he found someone to check it over for free…… and he was back to our shop 1 week after purchase with a very loud noise when driving over bumps;
Unfortunately this story didn’t have a silver lining. The rest of the underneath of this vehicle was just as rotted out as this mount. The person that checked the vehicle over for him for “free” was the previous owner of the vehicle and the guy that sold it to him (this has to be a conflict of interest). He paid $4,000 for the vehicle, just to fix the immediate rot damage would be about $1,500, and he still has a myriad of other issues. If he had us perform a Pre Purchase Inspection we would have caught all of this prior to him purchasing the vehicle. At the end of the day we ended up choosing not to repair the issues on this vehicle because the repairs would far exceed the value of the vehicle.
BMW Check Engine Light
This customer came in with a BMW for a Check Engine Light issue. We quickly diagnosed the concern but the customer had a “friend of a friend” that could fix the issue cheaper (read more about this one here). The customer wasn’t even remotely concerned with the quality of parts or that Trained Technicians would be working on the vehicle. She just wanted the absolute Lowest Price Auto Repair she could find. Well the “friend of the friend” not only failed miserably at fixing the one basic issue but he successfully created many more issues.
The issue with the hoses was just one of many problems. The “Cheaper Shop” had her car for 7.5 weeks and wanted to charge her 2.5x what they initially quoted her. She was able to get her BMW back over to us in pieces and we had the car running like new within a few days for what we initially quoted her even with some additional repairs that were needed to fix what the “Cheaper Shop” messed up and hacked.
Subaru Brake Job
Brake jobs are very common. Every car is going to need it done at some point. When you drive the vehicle and step on the brake pedal, the brakes wear. This customer brought his Subaru in to have us look over the brakes. They were making a very loud grinding noise and it was pretty simple for one of our Master Technicians to quickly spot that the pads were just about completely worn out and the brake rotors were rusted too badly to be machined. So we recommended replacing the brake pads and rotors. The customer insisted that the rotors were fine and to just replace the brake pads. Then he informed us that the most he would pay was $20 because that’s what his “Mechanic” would charge.
Just so we’re clear, to perform this job properly it takes a Trained Technician about 1.5 hours and the parts alone are almost $180. Then we back the repairs with our Warranty. There’s no possible way we could have done the job for $20. So the customer took the vehicle to his “mechanic”…. and the vehicle came back to us about 2 days later making the same noise.
His “Mechanic” replaced just the brake pads with the lowest quality part available. They weren’t even the right pads for the car and he put them over these rotted rotors. That’s not even remotely taking into consideration the safety of the customer or anyone else on the road. We fixed the brakes, properly, in about 1.5 hours, and for the price we initially quoted. The customer was happy that his noise was gone.
We can all agree that price is one of the deciding factors for all of us when purchasing goods and services, but it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor. With that said, we’re not the cheapest. We don’t want to be, we want to be the best and make sure that you’re safe. But we’re also not even close to the most expensive…. If you’re only concerned with finding the cheapest repair possible, I assure you that we’re not the right shop for you.
Yesterday was the first time in 10 years that we saw a problem we didn’t have an immediate solution for. It’s not uncommon to see the staff go out of their way every single day here. What most customer’s expect is for someone to hold the door for them, make a genuinely polite comment about their hair, or even give them a ride home and they’re happy. But that’s not what makes us the “Best Auto Repair Shop in Western MA“. Aside from all of the amenities we offer here, our customer service is what sets the bar higher than most others can reach. Allow me to explain….
About a week ago a customer came in with a blatantly faulty rear differential (gears that turn the wheels). The customer is also Active Duty Military and has to drive long distances regularly to report for service then back home to see his family. He was given a few options and chose to go with a brand new unit. These units are built at a factory in Texas then shipped all over the country and installed as one piece. It’s definitely the best way to fix the problem. The customer was also happy about our Nationwide Warranty and Roadside Assistance since he drives across the country to report. Here’s the problem…..
We performed this Dodge Repair and installed the new unit and about a week later it developed a high pitched whining noise. It’s rare but sometimes these things happen. Since we don’t build the units here and just get a new unit with a Warranty from the factory it should be simple enough to just get another unit and Warranty this one right? Wrong! The problem here is that the customer is home for Holiday break and has to leave on 1/23. We didn’t know about the issue until 1/21 and shipping takes roughly 1 week…….. “Sorry Mr. Customer, you’re going to have to delay your deployment” was not an acceptable answer for this guy. Here’s the solution!
We found a warehouse that had one down near Maryland (roughly 5.5 hours away). The unit was promised to another shop so we had to call the other shop in Illinois and plead our case. The other shop offered to let us take that one but with the impending snow storm the warehouse in PA refused to ship the unit. So we drove down to get it….. We drove 11 hours in one day (cost the customer nothing whatsoever) to pick up the unit so we could Warranty it and correct the problem so that he can get back to protecting our country and get there on time. It’s the least we could do for all of the sacrifices him and his family make to protect our freedom.
I think we all can agree that sometimes “things” happen. But it’s how you handle those “things” that sets you apart. I can unequivocally guarantee there isn’t a shop around that would have done this for a first time customer or any customer for that matter. That’s why this is reason #420,247 why we’re the “Best Auto Repair Shop in Western MA“. We don’t just say we care, we prove it!
First off I would like to thank the staff at Precision Auto Repair & Sales. Their dedication to customer service is outstanding and unmatched. I have been in the Army for the last 15 years and have had my truck serviced at many different locations and many different states. The experience that I had at Precision beats them all, by leaps and bounds. When the first differential I had replaced was not acting right I contacted James and told him about the issue he didn’t hesitate and told me to bring it in. After talking with his staff he came back and said the he wanted to change it out for a new one. Now, I was home on leave and this was two days prior to me having to drive back to Alabama, James said we will do what it takes to make it right. His staff immediately started making phone calls to find a new one. There were only two units in the U.S, one in Texas and on in Pennsylvania. He called me and told me this, now I was wondering how it was going to get to Mass and installed in a day and a half. After many phone calls to many different places James called me back and said that he was DRIVING to PA to get the new unit! I was floored, where do you find that kind of customer service anywhere?! And for it to be the owner of the company is completely unheard of in this day and age, 99.9% of other places would have told me, to bad or don’t know what to tell you. Not James or his staff. I may not live in West Side currently, but he has certainly gained a customer for life. I still am taken back by the enormous lengths he and his staff will go to make sure the job is done right!! I can not thank James enough, he will get the mission done no matter what it takes.
Let’s face it. When your car breaks down it’s never at a convenient time. What’s worse is when it breaks and you just don’t have the means to fix it right then and there, but you need it right then and there…. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were Auto Repair Payment Plans ?
In situations like these it’s always nice to know that you have options. We see a need for such payment options every single day and when assessing our goals for 2016, finding an affordable Auto Repair Financing solution for our customers topped the list.
Today we’re happy to announce that we have partnered with AMS Financial to offer a variety of Auto Repair Financing options that will fit most budgets and credit histories. The approval process is incredibly simple:
